Cancer is the faintest of the zodiac constellations, yet it holds one of the sky’s greatest treasures — the Beehive Cluster (Messier 44), one of the nearest open clusters to our solar system, containing over a thousand stars. The ancients called it Praesepe, meaning "the manger," and used it as a weather forecasting tool.
In Greek mythology, Cancer was placed among the stars by Hera as a reward for a small crab that bravely pinched Heracles during his battle with the Lernaean Hydra. Though it accomplished little in the fight, its loyalty and courage were honored with a place in the eternal sky — a fitting myth for the most devoted sign of the zodiac.
