Light it, and the first thing you notice is the sound: a soft, steady crackle, the kind that makes a room feel like a cabin in October. Then the scent settles in, natural soy wax carrying wood fire, conifer forest or amber vanilla. Feu&Co makes these candles by hand in Montréal, and they have quietly become the ones I reach for before I shuffle a deck.

Their story
A workshop near Atwater Market
Small batches, wooden wicks, and a Québec certification on every jar.
Feu&Co was founded in 2021 by Anthony Provencher in Montréal’s Sud-Ouest borough, a few streets from Atwater Market. Everything is poured in the workshop on rue Saint-Ambroise, which doubles as a boutique open to visitors on weekends, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 pm.
Since June 2025 the brand is certified Les Produits du Québec, the official mark for products genuinely made here. And every month a portion of sales goes to environmental initiatives, from tree planting to clearing plastic off riverbanks. It is a company built around well-being, both yours and the river’s.

Caring for a wooden wick
Three small habits
A wood wick is not fussy, but it does have manners. Keep these three and every burn will be clean and bright.
Trim before every light
Snap or trim the charred top down to about 1/4 to 1/8 of an inch. A short wick means a steady flame and no soot. The wick trimmer is made for exactly this.
Give the first burn four hours
Let the wax melt all the way to the edge of the jar the first time, roughly four hours. It sets the memory of the candle and prevents tunnelling later on.
Burn in one-to-four-hour sessions
Long enough for a full melt pool, short enough to keep the wick healthy. Perfect timing for a reading, a bath, or a chapter of your journal.
