The Sun

General Meaning

The Sun blazes overhead as a child rides forward on a white horse, arms wide, face turned toward the light. Everything is simple and good. This is the card of uncomplicated joy — the experience of being fully alive, fully present, and genuinely happy. There is no shadow here, no qualification, no hidden cost. The Sun is what it appears to be.

When The Sun appears, something is genuinely good. The card asks you to receive it fully — not to minimize the happiness out of fear that it won’t last, not to search for the catch. Joy, when it arrives, deserves to be met with full presence.

In Love & Relationships

In love, The Sun is radiance, warmth, and the uncomplicated happiness of two people who genuinely delight in each other. Relationships under The Sun are characterized by joy, playfulness, and the sense that love is, fundamentally, a gift. The shadow — if this card has one — is superficiality: staying at the level of brightness without allowing the relationship to develop real depth.

In Career & Finances

In career, The Sun signals success, recognition, and the pleasure of doing work that genuinely energizes you. Achievement is real and deserved. The confidence this card brings is not arrogance but the natural radiance of someone who has found their right work. Share the warmth.

Spiritually

Spiritually, The Sun represents the experience of enlightenment in its most literal sense: the dissolution of the clouds of fear and doubt, and the experience of existence as fundamentally luminous. The spiritual path here is not a path away from the world but a path of full engagement with it — finding the sacred in the ordinary, in laughter, in physical joy, in the warmth of human connection.

Reversed Meaning

Reversed, The Sun is joy dimmed but not extinguished — happiness held at arm’s length by pessimism, perfectionism, or the quiet belief that good things are for other people. The light has not gone anywhere; something is standing in front of it. Find what you have placed between yourself and the warmth, and set it down.

Advice

Let yourself be happy. Not as a reward for work completed, but as a natural state that you are, right now, allowed to inhabit. The Sun does not ask you to earn its warmth.
