General Meaning
The Eight of Cups is one of the tarot’s most quietly profound cards — the moment of walking away from something that no longer feeds the soul. In the Rider-Waite-Smith, a cloaked figure moves away at night heading toward distant mountains, leaving behind eight cups stacked neatly. The moon watches, eclipsed.
The cups are not broken or empty — they are full and carefully arranged. This is not a reckless abandonment. It is a conscious choice to leave what is good enough in search of what is truly meant for you. This card demands courage, because the destination is unknown.
