Page of Cups
“The dreamer who listens to the fish knows more than the scholar who reads every book.”
General Meaning
The Page of Cups is the Court Card of wonder — the young dreamer who sees with the heart and hears what others cannot. In the Rider-Waite-Smith, a young figure holds up a cup from which a small fish unexpectedly peeks out — looking directly at them. The Page is surprised but not afraid.
This card speaks of emotional and creative beginnings, of messages from the intuition or from others, of a quality of sensitivity that may not yet be fully understood. The Page of Cups embodies the first language of the heart: dreams, symbols, feelings that arrive before thoughts.
In Love & Relationships
A love message is on its way — a declaration, an invitation, a confession of feeling. The Page of Cups can also represent meeting someone young at heart, creative, and emotionally sensitive. Or a new emotional awareness within yourself.
In Career & Purpose
Creative inspiration strikes. A message or conversation may arrive that opens a new path. The Page of Cups favours work in the arts, healing, writing, and any field that requires emotional intelligence and imagination.
Spiritually
The fish in the cup represents the unconscious rising into conscious awareness — a dream speaking through the waking world. Pay attention to synchronicities and symbols. Something is trying to reach you.
Reversed Meaning
Emotional immaturity or creative blocks. Someone who is overly sensitive, easily wounded, or retreating into fantasy to avoid reality. The reversed Page of Cups can also indicate a message that has not arrived, or news that disappoints.
Advice
Stay open to the unexpected message. The fish in the cup has something to tell you.
